About This Design
This production was set in the late 1960s because both the play and the period explored what it was like to be outside of societal boxes and in a liminal space. Taking this concept in mind, the lighting design's focus was not on creating realistic lighting moments, but instead distinguishing the various groups' looks. This was achieved by using vibrant colors, distinct textures, and the scenic-lighting collaborative arches. For the musical moments integrated into the show, inspiration was taken from talk show performances of the 60s.
